For Caregivers
Basic Care Item Services
Who Qualifies?
Free clothing, toys, and care infant equipment are available to displaced children with 'basic care per diem' or comparable SSI (not counting sibling subsidy or diaper allotment ) in qualifying court-placed, abandoned, DFCS, and private agency foster homes, relative care homes, fictive kin, grandparents raising grandchildren (without the biological parent also in the same home), teens who recently aged out of foster care, and foster children in college.
DFCS foster youth ages 16-22 aging out of foster care are eligible for free clothing and other items for two years after exiting foster care once living on their own or while pursuing secondary education.
Children placed with Relative Care/Fictive Kin caregivers are eligible for 4 seasons if receiving a per diem or comparable compensation. If receiving no per diem, SSI, or other equivalent compensation, the child can be served until age 18 or graduation from high school.
*During the months of March and September, if you receive a new placement as we switch our seasonal inventory, please complete a request form. Once completed, we will contact you to discuss obtaining current season clothing before we begin our next season distributions.
Note: For Children in DFCS or private agency foster homes - when termination of parental rights (TPR) has occurred on both biological parents and the child is in their future adoptive placement, the child no longer qualifies for our services. This policy applies regardless of whether adoption papers have been signed. At this time, FCSF relinquishes the responsibility of providing for the child to the planned permanency family. If the child is being adopted by a grandparent or other relative / fictive kin, the child may continue to receive services from Foster Care Support Foundation via the FosterCares™️ program according to FCSF relative care eligibility policy.
What We Distribute
Clothing is like-new, gently used and new. All underwear and sock are new. We do not distribute items that are in disrepair, stained or outdated. Infant care equipment, toys, books, and age-appropriate teen items are also available. Free car seats are available for relative care, grands raising grands and fictive kin that do not have a per diem. Families with a DFCS case or per diem can use the state car seat program that reimburses for one car seat per child through your caseworker and DFCS office.
How to Receive Services
By Appointment
Appointments are for individuals who live within a one hour's drive from the distribution center in Roswell, GA. The distribution center is where families come to shop for FREE for foster or relative children in their care. Caregivers select a seasonal wardrobe, toys, books, infant care equipment, school supplies and more.
Displaced Junior and Senior girls wanting a free prom dress to attend their High School Prom can either request a full service Appointment to select a dress along with a full seasonal wardrobe and other items, or request a Prom Dress Appointment as a dress-only option. See both application links below and choose the one that best suits your needs.
By Mail Order/Pickup
Mail orders are only for Georgia homes who are more than one hour’s drive away from the distribution center and can't make an appointment. Mail orders are filled by volunteers and include a seasonal wardrobe, a few small toys, books, and stuffed animals. Although we do our best to accommodate your mail request, we encourage you to schedule an appointment so you can select your own items including a large bag of toys and/or infant equipment.
Foster Care Support Foundation does not offer mail orders for counties in the metro-Atlanta area or outside the State of Georgia.
